House safety

OK, so in case of a fire, a brick house could be useful because it isn't very flammable.But would wooden houses burn? I a fire did happen, your first choice would be a brick house. But wooden houses look better when old, whereas brick looks rather ugly even when they are first built. So which is better, a wooden house or a brick house? I found this totally perplexing, so post me what u think.
